Empowering Youth Through Sport, Inclusion & Community

At the African Canadian Association of Ottawa (ACAO), we believe sport is more than recreation. It is a powerful way to build confidence, promote healthy living, develop leadership, create friendships, and strengthen communities.

What Is ACAO Sports Development?

Our Sports Development initiative uses sport as a platform for youth development, mentorship, social connection, healthy living and community inclusion.

We recognize that financial, cultural and social barriers can prevent children and youth from participating in organized sports. Through partnerships and community-led programming, ACAO works to reduce those barriers and create pathways for more young people to participate.

Our focus goes beyond developing athletes. We want young people to develop the confidence, discipline, teamwork and leadership skills that can support them throughout their lives.

Who can participate?

Creating opportunities for children & youth.

ACAO Sports Development programs are designed to welcome young people from Ottawa's diverse communities. Specific ages and eligibility requirements may vary by program, but our overall objective remains the same: making sport more accessible, inclusive and welcoming.

1Children and youth from Ottawa's diverse communities
2First-time participants and those developing existing skills
3Families facing financial or accessibility barriers

Every young person deserves the opportunity to participate, discover their abilities, and feel that they belong. Whether trying a sport for the first time or looking to develop existing skills, our programs provide opportunities to learn, participate, and connect.

Our Sports Programs

Two programs, one mission.

ACAO partners with community organizations to deliver accessible, inclusive sports programming for Ottawa's children and youth.
