ACAO works to improve the health of the community. The program partners with Community Health Centre, Ottawa Newcomer Health Centre, and research institutions to situate black health in policy discourses.
Vaccine Campaigns
When We Are Vaccinated: We received $5,000 from Public Health Agency of Canada to run When We Are Vaccinated campaigned aimed at encouraging people to get vaccinated by emphasizing what we could do when we all got vaccinated.
Soccer for Vaccine: During the year, we partnered with Ottawa Public Health to successfully organize soccer tournament that saw over 300 vaccines administered to players and spectators.
Vaccine Initiatives
Vaccine Seminars
We successfully planned and delivered high-quality Covid 19 and HPV vaccines seminars that were attended and viewed online by more than 2500 people. The panel included top black physicians and specialists in the country as well as Ottawa’s top medical officer of health. The takeaway was that vaccines help save lives and as a community, we have a role to play to combat vaccine-related hesitancy.
Newcomer Health Centre
We partner with the Academia and other organizations to provide adequate access to healthcare for the community. Example including working with Newcomer Health Centre to help our newcomers find family physicians and providing other services.
