Crisis in Cameroon

Crisis in Cameroon (while the Canadians party on like rock stars)
The Canadian Connection, eh?
Genocide!
« Rwanda 2.0 » has been simmering in Cameroon for years now — and counting.
But hey, who’s counting? As long as there are a few bucks to be made, jobs to be created in the metropolis, and politicians who get to boast about jobs created in vote-rich constituencies, who cares?
A bunch of Africans gets killed, the rest get traumatized for generations — who cares?
It’s uncanny how, time and again in Africa, when hapless, hopeless, helpless Africans get butchered simply for daring to ask for equity, fairness, to be treated like human beings — the world looks away.
And which Canadian company beat the ultra-cheap Chinese to win the Douala Stadium contract?
Would that be SNC-Lavalin, perchance? The infamous Montreal-based SNC-Lavalin?
You know how that story goes, right? Bribery, corruption, contracts awarded despite flunking technical requirements — just like the Ottawa light rail debacle with trains falling apart at rush hour.
Now, back to the corruption bit.
SNC-Lavalin has a history of gravitating towards jurisdictions that score high on the Transparency International corruption index.
Cameroon is right up there with the biggest and « baddest » bribers — that’s a fact.
If SNC hadn’t « wiggled » its way into the Yaoundé kleptocrats’ bank accounts, France would have sent over a planeload of advisors to pry the contract away, lowest price and high technical score notwithstanding.
France’s “cooperation” deal with FrançAfrique guarantees that French companies get first dibs on colonial contract awards.
It doesn’t matter who gets genocided or whose rights are trampled — it’s just a bunch of dead Africans, right?
Canada has routinely ignored the slaughter happening in Cameroon — the other bilingual English-French territory, so similar to Canada in its linguistic duality.
Canadian Foreign Affairs ignored the genocide when it started. Canada still ignores it, as elite military forces execute a « total solution, » Nazi-style, killing English speakers, burning down homes and villages.
Meanwhile, Canadian companies carry on doing business as usual, rearranging the deck chairs while the Titanic sinks.
The media ignored it for the longest time. Diaspora communities ignored it. Whole families slaughtered in their sleep, labelled as « dogs, » « rats, » « Biafran enemies in the house. »
Just hapless Africans with a lot of coveted resources. And what better way to get those resources than to eliminate the inconvenient people standing in the way?
It’s reminiscent of the helpless Canadian general who stood by while the Rwandan genocide unfolded.
Today, Canadian diplomats and businesses are busy rearranging the deck chairs on the sinking Titanic — chasing quick profits while soldiers slaughter babies, rape mothers, and burn grandmothers in their beds during scorched-earth raids against a people running barefoot in slippers.
Since they couldn’t be assimilated into the French sphere of exploitation, better to kill them off — and claim their resources.
